There is a lot to say about this old work horse. This was one of 4 engines
I helped take off of an oil field in Pa. I bought one of the engines
(dempster & comstock) and my friend kept the other 3. This was very
exciting and quite a challenge for me as this was my first time seeing
engines on their original mount and then retrieving them. We dismantled
all the engines and slid them down the hill with my 1951 T030 Ferguson tractor.
The box bed half breed now has a 1904 Bovard & Company cylinder which I am
having bored by Joe Sykes in Lockport, NY. and the piston will be metal sprayed
and resized. The piston was stuck in this engine and boy was it fun to get out.
This is my first big engine and it has caused some handing problems that can take a
lot of time and money to overcome. Below are some pictures I captured from my
video camera (excuse the quality) when I was trying to find the engine in Pa.
At the end of 1996 I finished restoring the Dempster & Comstock and it took a
while to get her to run just right. Getting the gas valve set and the spring pressure
right on the intake valve wound up being kind of tricky on this old half breed. But
boy does she run nice now. Click below to hear a short sound clip of her.

The cylinder and flywheel are now installed...
The engine is completed and here I am running it for a few friends....
We finally got some good weather and pulled the half-breed outside with my
ferguson T030. After I got it located where I wanted it, my son and I started
her up. The last picture is of the hot tube mounted on the head....
